Deputies say a 50-year-old Gainesville resident was arrested after allegedly aiming a firearm at a neighbor in a repeat confrontation early Thursday morning.

Gainesville, FL – During the early morning hours of Thursday, deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a suspicious person in the 7000 block of SW 6th Place. When they arrived, they spoke with a resident who reported that their neighbor, 50-year-old Christopher Tyson, had pointed a gun at them while they were walking their dog.

Deputies recover handgun and pellet gun during search

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim told deputies Tyson approached them, raised a firearm, and manipulated the slide before lowering the weapon and returning to his residence. The victim also described a prior encounter a week earlier in which Tyson allegedly pointed a gun at them and shouted an expletive.

Deputies issued loud commands for Tyson to exit his home, which he did without incident. He was detained at the scene while investigators secured a search warrant for his residence.

Tyson charged with aggravated assault with a firearm

After the warrant was executed, deputies recovered a black semi-automatic handgun and a silver pellet gun from the property. Tyson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said the case remains under review as investigators continue to determine whether additional charges will be filed.
